Apple and Honey Crumble

Apple and Honey Crumble

It’s Fall y’all (ish) and that means apples are here to party. And the best way to celebrate with apples is during Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Apples and honey are eaten during this holiday to usher in a sweet New Year. Little known fact, my grandfather absolutely loved Judaism and we celebrated many of the high holidays growing up. Then in college, my friend base was mostly from Hillel, most thought I was Jewish until they heard my name was Christina, that was a dead giveaway I wasn’t, hahaha.

Now I did develop this recipe for Rosh Hashanah but it is so good and simple, you will want to eat it regardless of your religion. It is dairy free and gluten free, and if you swap the honey for maple syrup, it would be vegan. Top it with some vanilla ice cream or an extra drizzle of honey, it is the perfect dessert. In fact, it is so simple and real, you could totally eat this for breakfast. It takes 30 minutes in the oven, the optimal time to throw in just before you sit down for dinner, then you have it all warm and bubbly after you have dinner…

The apple part of this is so simple, just combine the apples with spices, a little vanilla, and a thickener. I love that this uses that pumpkin pie spice that you have too many jars of and don’t know what to do with.

Here are the crumble topping ingredients.

I used a bowl for pics but normally, I just mix the fruit portion in the baking dish for less dishes to wash.

Mix it all together, the honey is the only sweetener in this recipe too!

Spread it all into your baking dish, trying to get it in an even layer.

For the crumble topping, pour in that melted butter, I used vegan butter but coconut oil or regular butter would also work great.

Mix it up!

Sprinkle or pour over the apples and spread out. You will really smell all those beautiful spices.
