Chicken and Sausage Yum Yums

Chicken and Sausage Yum Yums

**PICTURES UPDATED 10/21*

I'm sure you are thinking, Chicken and Sausage whaaaaaa? I have been making a non-Whole30 version of this for years and the first time I made it, my husband dubbed it Yum Yums, and the name stuck. It is a delicious and easy recipe that is made in the slow cooker, aka, a mother's BFF on crazy days. The only bummer is that it is not super cute to take pictures of, but it has a pretty soul and what's on the inside counts, right? This is also a great recipe for the keto crowd, I don't know a ton about it but everything here should be good, and if dairy is your friend (that B* is totally not mine) switch the almond cream cheese to the real deal!

And I know that slow cooker recipes are not super appealing to the the This Is Us crowd, but this is legit. We just started watching that show, no where close to the "Crockpot" incident but man people are "fired" up about my favorite kitchen appliance. Too soon???

Chicken and Sausage Yum Yums

Inspired by Baked New England

  • 3 medium chicken breasts

  • 1 package no-sugar Kielbasa, Pederson's is a great option

  • 1 medium onion

  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 1 1/2 cups chicken broth, compliant (look out for sugar and added colors)

  • 8 oz dairy free cream cheese, room temp, the Kite Hill almond cream cheese was perfect

  • 3 Tablespoons grainy mustard

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • 1 teaspoon Italian herbs

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon pepper

- Layer the chicken, sausage, and onions in the slow cooker.

- Mix the rest of the ingredients in a bowl, whisk until all combined.

- Pour over the meats and onions, mix a little to make sure the sauce gets down to the chicken. Cook on Low for 5-6 hours or High for 3-4 hours.

- Serve with rice of your choice and a veggie for a easy dinner!

Here is the line up, pretend I bought the right version of Kielbasa, m'kay?

In the slow cooker, place the chicken first, top with the sausage, then the onions. Layer that flavor on!

I usually make the sauce in my large measuring cup after I portion out the chicken stock. Just drop in the cream cheese, just make sure you don't drop and splash, I have totally done that and had more cleanup. And trust me on the grainy mustard, it makes the sauce so good and just tell your kids it is sprinkles if they give you any grief!

Pour the sauce over like a waterfall, think of TLC, and go dang, I'm old, that song was big like over 20 years ago...

Look at my ghetto Crockpot, it needs a trivet to stand up, mostly level...

And boom, there's dinner. Go pop in some steamer vegetable bag into the microwave and make your rice.
